Disallow beginners from dueling

There are many experienced players who make fake accounts, go to beginners lobby and farm duels garnering them an elo not reflective of their actual skill and sometimes a trophy they don't deserve for farming beginners who don't know better.
It is against the rules, but that is like putting a band-aid on a sucking chest wound.


I propose restricting dueling to Rank 5-6 to prevent this blatant farming as players below this rank don't really grasp dueling and it's effect anyways.

If zoom bugging and cutting across the no go zone in Scotland and Cornwall are allowed then allow farmers.

On topic I agree I think dueling should be for 7+ in a anonymous lobby so people cant avoid one another.

Is this genuinely a big problem? Let's say there are 10 players that do this each year. Does such a seemingly trivial problem justify banning ALL beginners from duels? Why should all innocent beginners be banned and punished to stop a minority of wrongdoers?

Duels are the best place to actually learn how to play well, they also take the shortest amount of time to fill and finish. By banning beginners you deprive them of the avenue most suited to improve their play.

There is 10 players every season so yes its a problem

Helly and Unicorn please stop derailing every thread with your personal vendettas, its really to much quote spamming and diminishes the real subject of the threads.

I agree with HU4Rollz on this. I was gonna comment about this a couple days ago, but HU4 perfectly worded what I was about to say. There are other alternatives to minimize this problem, but limiting the beginners is really an extreme one. I am pretty sure the moderators, especially with the amount of active ones we have at the moment, could easily track and trace those alts and ban them in time or take away their unrightfully trophies.

Like HU4 said why should the beginners pay for the pathetic actions made by some rotten apples? Its not really fair. Dueling has become a huge part of the game for the last few years, taking away that experience from beginners seems wrong in my opinion and would only create a bigger gap between beginners and ''experienced'' players.

I am pretty sure that if the playerbase of this game was bigger and the game actually had more people who 1v1ed/dueled, this would be less of a problem. Because I somehow got the feeling that the reason some people play on alts is because the "dueling community" of this game is verry smallbased and usualy contains the same people, whom some people just dont want to play against and might have numerous reasons for.

As solution I am actually reffering to Age of Empires 2 on Voobly (which is like steam) where they show the ''playercard'' just like on aw when you click on their name. However this ''playercard'' includes the name of the alt(s) and the rank/elo of it. I think, if it isnt to complicated, we could add something like this to aw too. It would show beginners that they've encountered an alt and it makes it easier to notice which players are farming.

You don't have to make any new rank restrictions. Instead, just remove dueling from the beginners lobby. If beginners want to duel, they should only be able to do so in the main lobby. After all, elo is the game's main ranking system. It should be a system that works equally for all players, regardless of skill. Having a special place where only beginners can duel is kind of unfair, as people can easily abuse this system.

You don't have to prohibit beginners from dueling altogether. You can simply prohibit dueling in the beginners lobby only. If beginners want to duel, they should only be allowed to do so in the main lobby. This would prevent elo farming from occurring, removing the incentive for creating smurf accounts.

If we are going to restrict dueling I don't see why we should do it only for two ranks, if you're gonna restrict it, just make it everything up to rank 6 then. I do think dueling could be a main room feature and a perk to leveling up, but I also have noticed that there are non-alts who duel, so I really don't see the need to restrict it at all. I mean.. its quite obvious to tell when an alt is top of the leaderboard, we've been able to correct those issues in the past just fine

I agree with this. The only thing I disagree on is the rank. R5-R6 is a low rank which can be easily reached in a matter of weeks. I was thinking something other like just not putting r0-r7 duelers in the dueling leader board at all but still let them duel, just not competitively like we do.

Farming is an exploit. So is hopping over Scotland with a boat and zooming in to cheat the moving system. As I said, I'm fine with natural shortcuts just not the Scotland and Cornwall one tbh, It's not natural.

But I'd say its a feature as allowing units to cross water would have to be coded in order to make war on coasts less tiresome to have. But again that's my opinion and it's as unprovable as yours. In all fairness Helly how can we "get this game on steam" and "get new players" if most of the community are in denial of two exploits.

Wouldn't move my Pawn sideways, it defeats the purpose of the fun, strategy and meaning of the game. Same way I wouldn't walk through land with a boat as it defeats the purpose of the moving system and the borders/landmass in the map.

As I said, i don't necessarily care if the "Competitive" players agree with me or not. At least I'm not in denial of the problem, which you and unfortunately so many others are.

I do have evidence btw, it's called Geography. Look at the map of Scotland and you can see no river going across it to lead to the Irish Sea, same with Cornwall...

The zooming bug doesn't take away from that units movement range but instead adds more movement to it. That's called "Abusing the movement system", "An exploit" That you can not comprehend that and say "There's no evidence for it" is ignorant.
