Hey guys, I had an idea I had to share with someone who might be interested- so, if any of you have played Final Fantasy X then you probably know about the Machina wars- the war 1000 years ago that was launched by Bevelle to destroy Zanarkand (Machina Wars) So I thought "Wait...that would make an excellent game!" but not an RPG...a war and an rpg don't mix- I was thinking a First person shooter. Maybe similar to FFXIII but with more of a *touch* to it. Maybe like how Halo 2 had a lot of Breaking benjamin music in it, maybe they could hire Rammstein or FFDP to do so songs for it- seems to fit. What do you think? It could have you as the leader or somebody else of a squad of Zanarkand soldiers fighting Bevelle machina in trenches along the calm lands...sounds quite badass to me! And think of the weapon possibility's...they could really vary. Maybe it could start with an airdrop in Macalania and you have to fight your way down to the Besaid archipelago and defend the unamed super-city down there, then take an airship to what's left of Zanarkand or something...just spilling ideas here lol. How's it sound?

Not a bad idea, though the music choice was a bit shit. Warhamme 40,000: Space Marine has proven the two genres of strategy and fighting can go hand-in-hand really nicely when you alter the setting just slightly. Not sure that trench warfare would make for an interesting game... after all, what it's best remembered for (at least in WW1, dunno about subsequent wars) was the boredom the soldiers faced and how little action they got before they died or got injured and bled to death, often from a shell wound. Not to mention the scenario you presented is cookie-cutter sci-fi. When it comes down to it, this isn't very far away from the plot depth of the Halo series. And it just wouldn't fit with all the romantic crap, the betrayals and the stuff that usually happens in Final Fantasy But no, it would never be popular as Final Fantasy games are best known for their really good RPG mechanics. That's core to marketing the game and the series has driven innovation in this field for a number of years. I like Final Fantasy but I don't think all the settings are perfect. FFXII's was pretty cool, with the airships and the pirates and all that. Still, I think a new IP would be better than one based on Final Fantasy. Simple because the genre would be better suited to it. ![]()

Well when I meant "trench warfare" I meant the trillions of trenches and battlefields in Spira at that time...plus, if this were a game it would be a lot different from others for one reason- Machina. Imagine fighting huge fucking robots, OR playing as them! I mean, games like gears of war have modes where you play as things like the Locust, so I can see where playing as a Machina could be the same- but a few Machina are just pure win, look at the Maw, imagine playing the multiplayer and out of nowhere that thing pops out and chases your ass and tears your teammates to shreds- let me just say here, the "chase" dynamic of video games is scarier than ANYTHING else they can throw at you- the chase from the antlion guardian in half-life 2 ep. 2 is one of the scariest moments in a game i've ever experienced because of this! Now imagine being able to chase your enemys down- and ensue whatever you please. Something else that could be really great is introducing a sort of Sphere grid / Garment grid system that was in the other two FFX games, for instance in multiplayer you could choose your garment sphere like you would choose a class in other shooters, but this is pre-set, no customization. You could collect / earn them some way, but definitely not from acheivment's / trophy's, maybe they could be rewards in the campaign by finding them or doing very hard puzzles like in the other FFX games? Now for weapons- this could be a problem, because the only guns really known in Spira are what the Machina use and the rifles Bevelle troopers use, but I would assume making some more wouldn't be so hard. Plus- you could also use magic, summoning and melee (summoning would be exclusive to Zanarkand, something would be exclusive to bevelle to though...kill streaks?). I just love the idea of a Machina wars game, seems like it would be a great game if they did it right- I mean, stay away from how most shooters are- "kill x guys get an airdrop, pick up shotgun and camp" maybe have something like "Get to the medic trooper in my squad, regain hp, power up beam turret in sector x and take out the Negator's". Now- you mentioned the "cookie-cutter sci-fi" stuff- I have no clue as to how the campaign would work so not much can be said to this, but rest assured- most of the tech in Spira is very err...I guess, "weird" by our standards, so if you were thinking this would be something like Alien vs predator as an example, it would be more of a fantasy for a few reasons: The leaders of Zanarkand (Yu Yevon) at the end when Zanarkand is destroyed end up recreating the city out of pyreflys, and using said pyreflys to create an armor around this new city out at sea, which becomes Sin- I don't see much sci-fi in that, plus the tragedy that is present in final fantasy games is quite present- maybe the campaign could be around Shuyin, and how he and Lenne are killed or something. Maybe there could be boss fights similar to those in other FPS games, against stuff like Protector X or other things that tie into the story. All in all, I still like the idea but I see it's faults as you pointed out, if they did the game right it could be one of the best though.
