Now Russia will have permanent presence in Middle East, region that was dominated by the US. It was in US interest to keep Syria stable, as instability would obviously invite the Russians, while US is sucking Iraqi oil. Another bad move by the US planners, who are clearly still stuck in Cold War mentality.

Not to mention Russia building good ties to Venezuela, which might lend island for Russian bombers. While China is growing, and Europe weakening due to terrorism and austerity.

For global peace we need geopolitical balance: USA & EU vs Russia & China (2v2), yet we got growing eastern powers and weakening western powers, which leads to instability and possible war.
