Is zero something real? Think about this: zero is the only "real" number that has to have its own properties, as you mentioned the division and multiplication rule. If a "real" number has to have its own set of rules that makes it act differently than other "real" numbers, then shouldn't it be considered something else? This is something I hoped not to bring up, but actually zero had to be proven by some arabian guy in the middle ages. In reality, zero is an expression, not a real number. Therefore one should be able to do the calculation ∞ x 0. What it is, I would like to know.

Infinity is not a number, it represents the indefinite end of our manmade numbering system, thus multiplying it by zero would make absolutely no sense-

So, ∞ * 0 is basicaly multiplying everything by nothing , 0=nothing, ∞=everything, what happens when you have something and multiply it by nothing? 1*0=0. But in this case were multiplying an indefinite "number" by a definite number, Example: the year is 1492, columbus finds america blah blah blah and estimates it being 600 million sq. miles- then trys to make that guess with no backing proof scientific fact, you can't. You need accurate info of the contienent before judging it like that. So, he would take the 600 million sq miles and times it by 0, which ends up with an indefinite answer, because you cannot make a problem without having the accurate info of what your making a problem about. Its like saying you can name every nation in europe, and ending up thinking Dalmatia is a country, you just cannot solve a problem without accurate information.

The divide by zero rule to me makes no sense, im not exactly sure how it works, but I take it as dividing something by nothing, like this:
100/0=???
Thats what a calculator usually says, but if your dividing a real something by an unreal nothing, it doesnt cancel each other out, the real number still exists, because you can't just say "suzie has 5 apples and took no bites from them, now the apples are gone", it makes no sense is what iam implying. My way:
100/0=100.

∞ is endless and 0 is the place holder for everything you can't have a negative or a positive number with out it. it also represents the bare amount without being stretched to being having to be replaced if that makes sense

There is no real discussion to be made, in my opinion.

∞ x 0 = 0
∞ / 0 = ∞
anything x 0 = 0

The only thing you should care about is 0/0 = ?

No matter how many times you multiply 0, you're not going to get anywhere, hence there being an error. Just like in any graph which has division, the denominator cannot be 0, when the variable on the bottom is a 0, there's a hole or break in the graph

At first, you may think that zero times infinity equals zero. After all, zero times any number is equal to zero, however infinity is not a number.

Logic dictates that zero multiplied by itself no matter how many times will always equal zero. However, I am going to proof that this answer is not quite correct when dealing with infinity.

First, I am going to define this axiom that any number divided by infinity is equal to zero:

Where c is any real number.


So, lets prove what zero times infinity equals:

y = 0 * ∞


The first step is to substitute for zero with the axiom:

      C
y = — * ∞
      ∞

Therefore, when the infinities cancel each other out, we get:

y = c

This can be rewritten as:

0 * ∞ = c


So, zero times infinity is an undefined real number. This is the definition of undefined. Therefore, zero times infinity is undefined.

Another way of looking at this is that no one can EVER finish multiplying zero times infinity, therefore the answer will always be undefined. Even though logic dictates that the answer will be zero, this answer will never be reached. Therefore, trying to multiple zero times infinity is undefined.

Let's just leave it at "You cannot use an undefined number in a equation, you must have all the information on both sides before solving it." In other words, it's unsolvable because Infinity is not ness. a "number", but more of a "representation of the infinite void of existance".

If you REALLY can't understand the undefined rule:

6/2 = 3
6 peaches divided among 2 people, each person gets 3 peaches.

0/2 = 0
0 peaches divided among 2 people, each person gets 0 peaches.

4/0
4 peaches divided among 0 people, how many peaches does each person have?
