I think we should focus more on cws than duels...noobs can duel in rp and any map and not even 1v1.

You should systematically observe the result with only one variable, measure it and test your hypothesis in such way. I have been systematically observing the duels and there are no less of them than 2 years ago, which I'm sure of. There are enough duels, but their inner nature (e.g. the map on which the most of them are played — EU+) also kills the fun in them.

My hypothesis is that the competitive aspect of the game is dying because its methods are obsolete. EU+ map, strategies, metas and everything else is constant. The playerbase is thus stagnating, and by time the number of competitive players will exponentially decrease. The real results agree with my hypothesis, so I think I beat you on this one.

The fact competitive is dying, is not because people stopped dueling eachother, its just a tiny part of it. Eventhough I flamed at Helly for it, he is partly right about the attitude of people from competitive. Most of you (competitive players) act so freakingly highhorse as if you deserve to be smug. Not to mention the attitude newcomers get for not knowing every standard expansion, for not managing micromanagement completely or rekking everyones asses. Next to that, the elo camping every seasonending, clans and individuals, using bugs and nasty things to get a win. Its just bad sportmanship.

In order for competitive to actualy grow, the upgrade lists needs to get a huge update. Competitive requires alot of the upgrades, which you can only get when youre about rank 8 or 9, which is just a huge disadvantage for any lower rank facing a higher rank. Its just not appealing to play competitive. Another huge thing is the general. The general is already a huge disadvantage overal, but in competitive almost everyone has it standard, so if you want to play competitive, it will most likely cost you around 36$ a year. Making generals free again would make it more appealing.

I've discussed with other staff members revamping how to buy upgrades and perhaps giving players the option to do it with PC, Premium also making each Upgrade cheaper (SP), so that you're Premium actually does something outside of unlock basic game features (this needs to be fixed as well). I've also talked about proposing a system where the game tells you which Upgrades are best/necessary for each Strategy, so when you're new and don't know what you need, everything is basically earmarked and streamlined for your convenience. You won't see radical change for some time yet though, Dave has another project he has to wrap up first.

For now here's what I ask of the competitive community and anyone else who has insight into this: What are some new Upgrades you would like to see? Which ones are the most important to play competitively? Do you have suggestions for which ones should be cheaper? etc.

I agree on putting more focus on CWs, but having official 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4 options for CW would be great too. Dueling is odd at the moment; I personally preferred the old system of challenging other players whilst in-game, but not for ELO/Comp metrics. Perhaps Ranked Matchmaking could be useful; Join a Duel Queue/CW Queue and the server automatically hosts the game from a list of presets/settings once another players joins the queue. Provided we get an official list of approved Dueling presets/settings, this could also help negate claims of certain individuals creating odd settings without letting other players know to steal their ELO etc.

Agreed, make your first five-ten CWs/Duels be placement matches that determine your seasonal starting ELO, last season can effect this outcome as well.

The more upgrades you make, the larger the skill gap will continue to grow.

Elo hogging has always been a problem. People don't duel because they are afraid to lose their elo. Njab you are one of them sorry.

Sure, I'll perhaps make a thread later on (not sure if I have the time for it atm), where I'll mention the order of upgrades people should focus on when interested in the field of competitive, but mostly in general, since no matter what genre, infantries are mostly the main units. The list will be open for discussion.

Like Helly said, i'd think no new upgrades should be made soon. Sooner or later new upgrades are a must, but I think it would unbalance the game if we came to quickly with upgrades.

I stopped playing duels because they were the main reason why I was playing AW non stop, 24/7. Who are you to talk about the way I spend my time in my life? I don't care about my elo and I am not against resetting all elo to ground zero. Don't mention me ever again, thank you very much.

Resetting the elo makes obviously sense since there is no point why people sit on their elo. A simples fix would be to remove the current normal elo and replace it completely with the seasonal elo we already have. Just a dumb idea I had but maybe I'm forgetting something

Edit: most competitive games that I played had some kind of seasonal system or reset after a period of inactivity. (league, or csgo for example)

No but in all seriousness, I get that removing the general elo with seasonal elo seems like a great idea, since the seasonal elo is already reset every season, but this still won't change the real problem we're facing. The real problem is that people only duel people from their own 'elo-league' or above, because dueling people with a lower 'elo-league' will be risky for them and barely give them any elo-gains. Thats kind of the mindset of the current duel-players.

And if we do decide to implement this, people will still, sooner or later, only duel people from their own 'elo-league'. Because when everyone has the same starting elo, it will be hard for those who had a bad start to eventually catch up. Meaning that there will be another gap between people with high elo and people with low elo, and this will create the earlier problems we had in the past, namely, alts and low-rankfarming in order to get closer to the players with a higher 'elo-league'.

Lets take 10 persons for example. 4 out of those 10 win alot against the other 6 and become somewhere around 1300-1500 elo. The other 6 remain with low elo, somewhere around 800-1100/1200? The 6 with low elo will have a harder time to catch up or even win a seasonal trophy, or get any 'street-cred' or any kind of recognition, thus they are most likely getting tempted to farm alts/friends, low-ranks or use verry nasty stuff, like changing gamesettings or aditional countrypicks.. you name it.

So by trying to fix this problem in this kind of way, we actually take the risk of opening doors to alot of other problems. As a player who's already been through all those stages in this game, I would say that if you decide to implement this, atleast one of those mentioned above is most likely going to happen.

I'd say, delete things such as ''The Hall of Fame'', because in my opinion, the urge to be on a thing such as the hall of fame, might be the actual reason of people thriving to get as high as possible and stopping at their peak instead of just doing what you like the most on this game.

I'm delighted with the responses here. However there's been a couple of completely innacurate ones.

When I was a lowrank I often played against players who were far better than me. I lost a lot of games for a few days, but then I started to win. The only way you improve is if you play people who are better than you. I I've seen a suggestion by one individual who mentions "smugness" of competitive players etc. Tell me why Mecoy runs a training clan full of newer players. Tell me why Witch doctor has a training clan. Tell me why Cold case ran a training clan for 2 years. Tell me why JF trained a noob like me for 2 years straight. Players have always been welcomed into the competitive scene. Waffel that is simply your inferiority complex coming to fruition once again. It's the same reason why you have 1234 elo, because you don't want your skillset to be assessed. You try to play it cool.

People can't get called out for duel dodging anymore either because of "toxicity measures". People trolled me for 2 years as a supporter, who cares, put them on ignore and get over it.

This is competitive, there's a hierarchy as to who is better and who is worse. Know your place, or change it by beating people above you.

Newer players are always welcome in comp. They just have to practice until they are good enough to join a clan, the same as every other top player had to do. Huge change is needed, but "Smugness" certainly not the reason.

Reset the elo , cus some ppl stack up elo then dont want to duel or avoid dueling , so they are doing harm cus dropping average game duel elo.
Best thing to do is just delete overall elo and replace it with the seasonal one.

People actually care about seasonal elo more then normal one if the last few days of the season are near. So when that happens they start camping to win the trophy.

Removing standard elo is utterly useless and counterintuitive. You cant force a guy who doesent wanna duel anymore to do what? give away his elo? Whos stopping players from dueling, are these inactive high eloers the problem? certainly not.

This kind of low iq thinking is what lead to the soviet union aka the worst country to ever exist.

I thought you were retiring? Nonetheless, we understand that the 2015~ era players are dropping off an that's fine, but if we're to ever have a 2019/2020 era to replace it we need to fix the scene for new blood rolling in and anyone who stays. Like I told you before: You and Mauzer should make guides on how you personally play unless you want your style and tactics to die for good. More resources means newer players have more stuff to learn from, and thus get better faster.

In regards to "we don't care anymore", you speak for whom besides you and Mauzer? People grow out of it, sure. But as I said before: Getting new people into it is something that has to be done.

You can't not call Helly at least Comp/Scenario at this point; You don't have to be autistically active to be labelled a competitive player. Would you label Cthulhu a non-competitive player too because he was away for a very long time?
